Hi Pete

Our motive for living a holy lifestyle under the New Covenant is different than under the Old Covenant. Under the Old Covenant people were rejected and punished if they didn't obey God's laws.

But then Jesus died on the cross for us and the written code of the law was nailed to the cross with Him:

Col 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and has taken it out of the way, nailing it to the cross.

There is now no more "Law" to obey, Christ has redeemed us from the Law. The Bible calls the old written code (written on tablets of stone) a "ministry of death": 2 Cor 3:7 But if the ministry of death, having been engraved in letters in stone...

We are now free to live for God out of a motive of love, free from the fear of punishment. Love is a much stronger motivation to stay faithful in any case, than a fear of punishment: 1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has torment. He who fears has not been perfected in love.

When you are born again God puts a 100% righteous born again spirit inside of you that doesn't WANT to sin in any case. But even if you do make a mistake, God has provided enough grace to cover even the biggest sin!! Rom 5:20 .... But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound

We have written several messages on the topic of the law, simply go to the "Browse by Topic" page and you will see them. May I recommend the following ones:

Preaching the Law
Nullification of the Law
Righteousness by the Law Pt1 & Pt2

And there are others too.

May God open the eyes of your understanding to free you from the snare of bondage and of the yoke of legalism that the enemy has put on the church for decades & decades.

Yours in Grace

you are trying to converge the old covenant that had a relationship to god thru regulation, with the new covenant where, as indicated by the torn curtain, is about direct relationship with the one who lives in each believer..........christ.

you are proposing that your interpretation of the law (anything written requires interpretation) trumps "you will recognize then by their fruit(fruit of the spirit)" and "that a good tree cannot produce bad fruit and a bad tree cannot produce good fruit." "test everything keep the good "

according to romans all law that believers are to contend with under the new covenant, is that which makes us aware of not living the 2nd commmandment(love your neighbor..........)
because ALL new covenant law is summed up in the 2nd commanmdment.(romans)
