Hi Rahman, No words I can say that will take your pain away, but your faith has taught us something new today...
Rahman truly you are special to our God. In your weakness
and sickness He is Glorified .
A Thorn in the Flesh
7 Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to [b]torment me—to keep me from exalting myself! 8 Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. 9 And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast [c]about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 10 Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with [d]insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

I am a Christian and have been all my life. I have been sick as a baby (4 months old - vomiting blood for almost 6 months)and then again diagnosed with high blood pressure at 16. At 21 I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. After 3 massive operations to remove my colon and reconstruct my insides I thought I was done.

At 29 I had to have a cyst removed from my ovary. Last week I discovered abnormal growths in both my armpits. These need to be removed and my armpits re-constructed! My family has been through so much pain because of my illnesses. They suffer with me and that is not fair. My mother is getting older and she has to help me... This is not what should be happening at this stage of her life.

I gave my life to God at 23. I have never since then turned my back on Him. I try to do my best and live according to His Word. I cannot understand why over and over I must endure pain, medication, being confined to bed and then get my life back on track only to have something else go wrong. I fight with everything in me to stay positive and keep on improving my life.

Each time it is a battle and a choice between giving up or picking myself up. I cannot understand why my God - who is meant to love me allows these things repeatedly in my life. I have not given up and never will give up on God but I feel very hurt by the latest medical condition. It is not the physical things I have to endure - this body can either recover or it could die. I am battling with the thought that my God has allowed this.

Also, I want to thank you for being honest that there are times when you've been sick without healing. I see too much lying and manipulation in the healing movement (people like Benny Hinn or Todd Bently) often that it gives me pause to trust that they are examining scripture rather than basing their movement on an emotional high. I may disagree with many Christians over scripture (though I don't doubt their salvation), but I am grateful when we can actually enter into conversation rather than one side bashing the other for not believing hard enough. The Bereans were commended for checking Paul and we are commanded to "test the spirits". If it means slower progress then so be it... its better than the multitude of atheists I've met who were turned off from Christianity because they had legitimate questions thrown in their face. And its not our strength of faith that is important, but rather the object of our faith... Jesus Christ.

If something happens in our life it is either God caused or God allowed, right? As in the devil did not slip something by God without him noticing, right? So what we go through here on earth are trials and tribulations which, though not good (not what would happen in Heaven), God uses them to perfect our faith (so that we'd trust in Him and not our circumstances or the soundness of our bodies). Full salvation, of our bodies and our world, will not be received until Jesus comes again to bring us into glory. I believe the verse you site "by his stripes we are healed" refers primarily to us being formerly dead spiritually.

I'd add to people's objections of sickness to your position with that of death. It is not God's will that any death/decay be in our world. Yet all people up to now, including the apostles/faithful, have died - all by God's foreordained will. His greater will is that people should trust Christ for their eternal salvation. To that he allows sin, suffering, and death so that people would turn from sin and put their hope in the unfading love we have in Christ. So I end with this verse... "If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men."

God bless you,
Steve

Hey Ralph

I believe Isaiah's prophesy here pertained specifically to Israel, who were still under the law. Look how the chapter starts:

Isa 30:1 This is the LORD's message for his rebellious people: "You follow your own plans instead of mine; you make treaties without asking me, and you keep on sinning.
Isa 30:2 You trust Egypt for protection. So you refuse my advice and send messengers to Egypt to beg their king for help.

So because of their disobedience and the covenant He had with them, God HAD TO punsih them.

Isa 30:20 The Lord has given you trouble and sorrow as your food and drink. But now you will again see the Lord, your teacher, and he will guide you.
Isa 30:21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, you will hear a voice saying, "This is the road! Now follow it."

Fortunately we live under a different covenant with different terms and conditions.
Amen!

Hi Johann

This article might give you a good answer to your question:

http://www.charismaministries.org/sickness-for-god's-glory/

The main point is this: Did God get glory from restoring the blind boy’s sight, or by keeping him blind?

In Grace

Andrè, you stated in your last paragraph "God does NOT use sickness to test our character or to bring Himself glory."

How then shall we interpret the Bible in the following verses than anything else that God heals the sick so as to bring the glory to Himself, and not to man?

NKJV
John 9:2 "And His disciples asked Him, saying, Master, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
John 9:3 "Jesus answered, Neither has this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God might be revealed in him."

Regards :-)
